Why is Sharing Your Testimony Important?

Why is Sharing Your Testimony Important?
Sharing your testimony, sharing your faith

Have you heard that sharing your testimony is important? Maybe you’ve read “The Great Commission” in Matthew 28:16-20, which says, “Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”

A lot of people talk about the fact that we are called to share our faith with others, but not a lot of people talk about why. Why is it so important that we talk about Jesus with friends, family, and even strangers we don’t know who don’t know Him? Without knowing why, it’s easy to pass it off as too awkward or uncomfortable. However, when you dive into the importance of sharing your testimony, actually doing it becomes a little easier and even a bit exciting.

4 Reasons Sharing Your Testimony is Important

If you’ve always wondered why you should put yourself in uncomfortable situations just to talk about Jesus, here are four reasons to consider.

1. Sharing Your Testimony Brings God Glory

Many passages in the Bible talk about giving glory to God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” How you live your life should glorify God–it should honor, exalt, and magnify His name. One of the ways to do this is to share about God with others. Think of sharing your testimony as your way to make God famous!

2. Sharing Your Testimony Helps People Experience Hope and Joy

The news of Jesus is good news. With Jesus comes hope, peace, love, joy, strength, comfort, and so much more. Many people are searching for these things and not finding them because they look in the wrong places. How exciting is it that you know the Source of true hope and joy? Why would you want to keep this good news to yourself?

3. Sharing Your Testimony Is Your Responsibility as a Christian

You are saved by faith, not your works. However, that doesn’t mean you don’t have responsibilities as a Christ-follower. James 2:14-18 says, “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.”

Put your faith into action by sharing about Jesus with others. It not only glorifies God, but it brings hope to others and benefits you simultaneously.

4. Sharing Your Testimony Strengthens Your Faith

Your faith in God is strengthened when you talk about God. Just as hearing the Word spoken at church grows your faith, so does speaking the truth to others. When you share your testimony, you share how God stepped into challenging situations in your life and made a difference. You talk about where you were before you knew God and how your life has changed now that you know Him. This is not only encouraging for someone else to hear but hearing it for yourself is also encouraging.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day that you forget how amazing God is. Sharing your testimony with others brings you back to places of great need and even greater transformation by the love of Jesus.
